EQUIPMENT
Architects Scale; Drafing Board and/or Drafting Board Cover; Mechanical Pencils (0.5 & 0.7 or 0.9mm); Tracing paper(18" x 24"); Straight Edge; Lighting Template.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
  1. To create an understanding of the workings of elementary electricity and the uses of light in the theatre.
  2. To understand the practical uses of lighting instruments for the stage.
  3. To install a basic appreciation and comprehension of lighting design from concept to design to practice.

 

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance will be taken at the beginning and end of each evening class.
After five (5) absences grades will be reduced one letter grade per absence. If you have a major illness or complication which causes you to miss more than four times, don't just quit coming to class. Please contact me personally so we can try to work out the problem.

 

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
  1. You will be responsible for reading all assignments in teh textbooks.
  2. You will have practical/deisgn assignments to complete on your own time: and one written critique of each of the two productions produced by the EKU Speech Communication and Theatre Arts Department.
  3. You are required to see the two departmental productions this semester. You may sign up to usher for any night of the production and attend tthat night free of charge.
    A Grand Night for Singing ---------- Sept 29 - Oct 2 Gifford Theatre 8:00pm

    Much Ado About Nothing ---------- November 17-20 Gifford Theatre 8:00pm

  4. There will be approximately 3 exams spread throught the semester. Exams may be made up during class time within one week of the date that the exam was given. One letter grade will be taken off your score without a written excuse attached to the make-up exam.
  5. Food and drinks are prohibited in class.
  6. It is required that you attend two "Hanging adn Focusing" sessions prior to the opening of each production.
  7. You will be required to produce at least one design project and one practical project to be presented as a whole in Gifford Theatre.

 

GRADING BREAKDOWN
The points acquired on the exams, design and practical assignments, evaluation of both theatre department plays will be totaled and broken down on a 10% scale.

Letter grades will be broken down on a 10% scale:

90% - 100% A
80% - 89.9% B
70% - 79.9% C
60% - 69.9% D
